In a time when everyone is "living their best life", partying hard and traveling plenty. Its important for us to remember that we must still pack our beauty sleep and skincare routines. I know it sounds lame but science proves its true. All day, skin works hard to protect itself from constant attack, but while we’re sleeping skin switches into recovery mode. I always say, "our skin does its best work while we are sleeping".
Between 9 to 11 p.m. is the the prelude to sleep when skin is most able to absorb topical treatments and DNA repair is boosted. Melatonin is a hormone that not only makes us sleepy but also works to counteract damage to the skin from our day. UV Rays and Pollution are the worst for us when we are out and about in our day.
HGH (the human growth hormone), responsible for accelerating skin's repair and cell regeneration also kicks in while we are sleeping. Science says that between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., our cell production can double, and if we’re in a deep sleep, you could see cell turnover increase by three times between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.,”
Our skin is more active overnight. It’s also warmer so skincare products have a higher absorption rate. If things can get in, then things can get out. The morning phase is when “transepidermal water loss” through the skin is at its highest.
Thanks to overnight water loss, your skin is now at its driest and the barrier can be impaired. Crazy Right?! Double Edged sword. We need our protective barrier, so, DONT forget to moisturize and protect with sunscreen before you start your day.
First Aid Beauty SPF 40 and mineral moisturizer is great!
